Fun Day at BYU

September 10, 2011
Greetings Viking XC
Overall, we had a really good day at BYU. Although some of you seemed disappointed with your times, you have to remember our home course is 200 meters shorter than the race at BYU. So, we need to adjust our times accordingly. In so doing, most of you ran PR's once again for the season. We had some strong showings in the men's race. Kevin Martin led the way with a 6th place finish, winning a medal and t-shirt. Drew Linton finished 18th and received a t-shirt. In the ladies race, Sierra Chowen finished 29th and won a t-shirt. All three ran significant PR's. Despite not having a full team, our remaining runners ran well. The overall times for 2011 were much faster than 2010. So, as a team, we are starting to see where we sit in relation to the rest of the 5A teams in state. Use the following link to see your results: http://www.runnercard.com. As coaches we were pleased with the effort, especially after a hard week of practice. We ran with weary legs and are becoming stronger runners because of the workouts. We need to remember to not be content in a race but to push ourselves beyond our limits. We are a very solid team. To move to the next level, it takes the following:
  • mental strength
  • hard training
  • dedication
  • perseverance
  • commitment

We are on the right track. Let's develop a strong, competitive nature and continue to cheer and encourage our teammates. This week we have the Davis County Championships on Wednesday at Layton Park and Friday the Murray Invitational at Murray Park. Two big races! We want to have a good showing; and, most of all, we want to have FUN. We are learning along the way.

Good job this week!

Go Vikes!
